Envelope Pillow Tutorial

Our mom is the queen of the "envelope pillow." When I was a wee little gal, she found an embroidery for me to make. It looked like the front of an envelope and the text was something like

To My Sweetheart
123 Lovers Lane
Heartville, XOXO

I thought it looked great just how it was. But my brilliant mother took the envelope to the next level of awesomeness. That's right, she made the embroidery into a pillow with a little envelope and a button to seal it all together. Some day I will take a picture.

Luckily, my mom and my sister created a series of YouTube videos with a tutorial of how to make my mom's easy envelope pillow. I haven't seen them for a few years so I was shocked today when I saw that over 2,000 people have seen each of the videos. So cool!

Here they are for you viewing pleasure...

So, I wanted to take a picture of this great rag quilt that Becca made. I love it.

Perfect Puddles

"Perfect Puddles" What a great name for a quilt featuring our fabric. So fun!

We found this post on the Quilt Engineer blog, it is her Modern Circle Sampler Quilt, and Latifah teaches a class at Sew Modern in Los Angeles. The circle is created using the "Six Minute Circle Method" and she says that it is the easiest part of the quilt. Circles have always seemed pretty difficult to me, so we may need to try this method!

Fun note: Latifah says the line is called "Retro Umbrellas" rather than its true title "Rainy Days and Mondays." We've actually heard that happen a lot and maybe that name is a better fit. But hopefully when people read the name "Rainy Days and Mondays" they will not just say it, but sing it!

Darling pinwheel quilt by Nedra from Cactus Needle

So, because I get "GOOGLE ALERTS" every time someone uses "melimba" and/or "beccabury" I was able to spy this delight created by Nedra from the quilting blog, Cactus Needle.

Her pattern was a free one she got from Sew Mama Sew, called Pinwheels in the Park, designed by Rachel Measham-Pywell from Four Wise Monkeys.

I think this turned out so cute!  And, hello, so fun that she used our fabrics!  Seriously, this is one of the cutest quilts I've seen made with our fabric to date!

Here's a zoomed out view:

Way to go, Nedra!  This turned out awesome!

birth announcements

Since I've been doing a fair amount of design work for friends lately, I thought I'd share one of the latest projects we finished... A little birth announcement!
This was a fun folded note that will accommodate 3 different photos!  Kind of a fun concept!  As we all know, it's all about the photos of that cute baby in the end.
Anyway, my friend Kelly will be inserting her own photos, but here's the part I did:

inside left of the card---and darling photo will be placed on the right hand side...

On the back she's going to put a little wallet sized group photo of her new addition + her other darling kiddos.  We put her blog info. and a few other things back there.

In the end, I think it turned out pretty sweet.  And, hello, you should see that baby!  She's a DOLLY!  Maybe if I get permission, I could post one, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, another little project I did was for another friend's little baby.  I created a little onesie for her and wanted to give her something else... so I quickly created some stationery for her.

and I brought her some lemon quick bread.  if that doesn't look delicious, I don't know what does.  I was very tempted to take a little slice off for myself.  But, alas, it probably wouldn't have been very appetizing for her to see a big chunk had been taken off.
Oh, and you wanted to know what the onesie looked like?  Sure.  I'll show you.  (As if you could respond otherwise)  It was pretty similar to the one I made for my little dolly, Tillie Mae, back when she was about 10 months.
I know I'm cutting off the shirt here, but would you look at that face!?!  She was such a DARLING baby! (and such a darling 3 KID now too, of course!)

Thanks for humoring me.  Yes, the onesie we gave her was pretty similar to this one.  :)  Long story made longer with a billion photos.

And, since I was going through my photo archives, I stumbled upon this little number I created for my husband after he graduated last year.  I was reminiscing yesterday how CRAZY it was that he has been a "doctor" for just over a year. So strange.  Is it weird that I still laugh when people address him as "Doctor Wood"?  hA!  Probably I should get used to it, b/c he is a smarty pants, and really is a LEGIT doctor.  Anyway, I saw an idea similar to this on ETSY a while back and made one up for Aaron:

Okay, that's all for now.  This post is getting way to long.  :)  I'll post the other projects later.  Ta ta for now!

beeeeee happy.

I've been working on a custom birthday card that my friend ordered.  She is a TOP DAWG at the cool company called, 31 Gifts.  Maybe you've heard of it?  They sell some pretty fun bags and they're all about personalization.
Anyway, she wanted to have me create a birthday card to give each of her team members for their birthday.  I showed her two different ideas we could go with it.  She opted for the cuter one.  I second that motion.

I'm forgetting the name they came up for their team, but it has to do with a BEE wearing a crown.  Hence, a bee with a crown.  She had the clever idea to make a play on the phrase "Happy b-day".  I love when people are tricky like that.
I have no idea if she's going to like it, but I'm having fun with it.

becca rocks the house.

You may or may not know that Becca is a graphic design fool.
I can say this, b/c I am her sister and one of her biggest fans.  I remembered these great little videos she created from SCRATCH during her last semester at BYU (which she just graduated minutes ago).
So, let's check them out to see a little more of that amazing RAW talent.

I love these videos AND the music she put them with.  brilliant.  Do I smell an invitation to an award show?  The Emmys?  An Oscar?  Both? (do you love that I have no idea what differentiates the award shows?  nice.)
